Pegs Kind Heart

Once upon a time, there was a deer named Peg. Peg loved to beg her father, a baker, for gingerbread. "Later," he would answer. One cold winter, Peg saw a beggar. He looked sadder than ever. Peg felt a tug in her heart. She had an idea. She ran to her father. "Rather than later, can we bake now?" she asked. Peg's father saw her eager eyes and couldn't say no. Together, they baked gingerbread men, better than ever before. Peg took them to the beggar. He was no longer a stranger. His eyes lit up like a star. He was warmer and happier. That Christmas, Peg learnt a bigger lesson. She learnt that to make your heart fuller, sometimes, all you have to do is be kinder.
