My Family and Turners Cross

Hi, I'm Jamie and I'm 8 years old. I live in a place called Turners Cross. It's really cool here! There are so many fun places to play and explore.

There's a big green park where I often go to play football with my friends. I like it when I score goals. The park has the tallest slide I've ever seen, it's so fun to slide down!

We also have a church, it's called Christ the King Church. It's very big and I go there with my family on Sundays. The bells ring really loud, you can hear them from my house!

There's a stadium too, it's called Turner's Cross Stadium. When there's a match, you can hear the crowd cheering. I want to play there one day!

I really like living in Turners Cross. There's lots to do and see. I'm lucky to grow up here. Bye for now.

The Logainm of Turners Cross

Turners Cross is a place in Ireland. The name sounds English, but it actually comes from the Irish language. In Irish, it's called "Crois an Tornóra". If we break it down, "Crois" means "cross" and "Tornóra" means "turner". So, "Crois an Tornóra" translates to "Turner's Cross" in English. Cool, right?

The "turner" in Turners Cross refers to a person who makes things out of wood, using a machine called a lathe. This person is called a "turner" because he turns the wood on the lathe to shape it. Long ago, there might have been a turner living or working in this area, and that's how the place got its name.

Today, Turners Cross is a bustling neighborhood in the city of Cork. It's known for its big soccer stadium, where many exciting matches are played. So, the name Turners Cross connects the present day to the past, reminding us of the people who lived and worked there long ago.
