Welcome to Tramore

Tramore, a lovely townland in County Waterford, Ireland, is like a treasure chest full of history! It's right next to the sea, which has always been very important for its people.

Long, long ago, before your great-great-great grandparents were born, Tramore was a small fishing village. The fishermen would go out in their boats and catch lots of fish to feed their families and sell at markets.

One of the most exciting things that happened in Tramore was in 1816, when a ship called the Sea Horse sank in a big storm. It was very sad because many people lost their lives, but it also made people realize they needed a lighthouse to help ships stay safe. So, they built the Metal Man, a tall statue that stands on one leg and points out to sea, warning ships about the dangerous rocks.

Today, Tramore is known for its beautiful beach and fun amusement park. But next time you're building a sandcastle on the beach, remember the fishermen, the Sea Horse, and the Metal Man, and how they all helped shape the history of this special townland.

My Family and Tramore

Hi, I'm Gabe, and I'm 8 years old. I live in a beautiful place called Tramore in Co. Waterford. We have the most amazing sandy beach here, it's the best place to build sandcastles and it's really fun to play with friends here. Sometimes we even find seashells!

Just near my house, there's this really cool place called the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens. It's full of pretty flowers and there are so many cool things to see. My favourite is the Fairy Garden, it's like stepping into a storybook. I love imagining I'm a fairy living among the flowers.

We also have a great amusement park called Tramore Amusement Park. It's packed with fun rides and games. My favourite ride is the big Ferris wheel. When you reach the top, you can see the whole town. It's so beautiful!

The Logainm of Tramore

Tramore is a lovely town in County Waterford, Ireland. The name 'Tramore' comes from the Irish words 'Trá Mhór'. In English, this means 'Big Beach'. In the past, people used to speak Irish all the time, and places were named in Irish too. Over time, as more people started speaking English, these Irish place names were translated into English. But for Tramore, the original Irish name was kept because it perfectly describes the town. Even today, when you visit Tramore, you can see why it's called 'Big Beach'.
