Welcome to Templetown

Templetown is a small townland in County Louth, Ireland. The name "Templetown" comes from the Knights Templar, brave and skilled knights from long, long ago. The Knights Templar used to own a lot of land in Ireland, including our little Templetown.

Now, you might be wondering, "Who were these Knights Templar?". Well, they were a group of warriors who promised to protect Christian pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land during the Middle Ages. Think of them like the superheroes of their time!

In the late 1100s, a man named Richard de Clare, also known as Strongbow, invited the Templars to Ireland. He gave them the land where Templetown now stands as a thank you for their help in his battles.

The Knights Templar built a preceptory, a kind of a special headquarters, in Templetown. Unfortunately, no ruins of the preceptory exist today, but its memory lives on in the name of our townland!

Even though the Knights Templar are no longer around, their story is a part of the history of Templetown. And that's what makes our little townland special!

Welcome to Templetown, a charming little place in County Louth, Ireland. The area is known for its beautiful scenery, especially the sandy coastline and the rolling hills. Right on the coast, there's a lovely spot called Shelling Hill Beach. It's a fun place to build sandcastles and search for seashells.

One of the most famous streets in Templetown is Sea Road, which leads you directly to the beach. Walking along this road, you can feel the breeze from the sea and hear the gentle waves.

Templetown is also home to many fascinating animals and plants. The lush fields and hedges are home to many small creatures like hedgehogs and rabbits, and you might see a fox or a badger if you're very lucky! The sky above is often filled with birds like seagulls, robins, and sometimes even a peregrine falcon.

There aren't any big mountains or rivers in Templetown, but there are lots of hills. Some of these are drumlins, which are little hills made by glaciers a long, long time ago. Isn't it amazing to think that ice helped shape the landscape of Templetown thousands of years ago?

My Family and Templetown

Hi! I'm Izzie and I'm 8 years old. I live in a cool place called Templetown, Co. Louth. It's really nice here. My house is near the sea and I can see it from my window. The beach is so big and sandy, I love building sandcastles there! Sometimes, I find pretty seashells and I keep them in a special box.

Close to my house, there's an old tower. It's called Proleek Dolmen. It's very big and old. I like to pretend that it's a castle and I'm the king. The tower is made of big rocks, and it's fun to climb on them.

Also, I love going to the Templetown Forest with my friends. It's a huge forest with lots of trees and animals. We like to play hide and seek there. And sometimes, we see squirrels and birds. It's so fun!

I like living in Templetown. It's a great place with lots of things to do. I wish you could visit and play with me at the beach or in the forest. Bye for now!
