Welcome to Spittle

Spittle is a charming little townland located in County Limerick, Ireland. The history of Spittle may not have big battles or famous kings, but every place has its own special story to tell, and Spittle is no different.

Long, long ago, before your grandparents or even their grandparents were born, Spittle was mostly farmland. People built homes and grew their food there, just like in many other places in Ireland. They raised animals like cows and sheep, and they planted crops like potatoes and barley.

Even though there are no famous castles or ancient ruins in Spittle, it has a rich history of farming and family life. Imagine kids just like you, attending school during the day, helping their parents on the farm in the afternoon, and playing in the fields until dinner time.

Over time, the townland grew and changed. New houses were built, roads were laid down, and more people came to live there. But Spittle has always kept its calm, peaceful charm. Just like a quiet, friendly character in a story, it might not be the loudest or most exciting place, but it's still very special in its own way. And that's the story of Spittle!

My Family and Spittle

Hi! I'm Emery and I just turned 8! I live in a cool place called Spittle Co. Limerick. It's in Ireland, you know. One of the best things about living here is the giant castle, King John's Castle! It's super old but not scary at all. I like to pretend I'm a brave knight defending it.

Then there's the People's Park. It's the best place for hide and seek. There's also a big statue of Thomas Spring Rice. My teacher told me he was really important a long time ago. I like his big hat. But my favourite place is the Milk Market. We go there every Saturday and I get to pick out my own fruits for the week. I always choose strawberries!

Living in Limerick is pretty cool. I'm learning new things every day and it's always an adventure! Bye for now!

The Logainm of Spittle

Spittle is a unique place in County Limerick, Ireland. Its name in Irish is 'Spideal', pronounced as 'Spiddle'. In English, 'Spideal' translates to 'Hospital'. However, don't get confused, it's not a place full of hospitals! It got this name because long ago, there was a special kind of house here called a 'hospital'. But these hospitals were not like the ones we know today. They were places where travellers and pilgrims could rest and get food and drink.

In those old times, many people travelled by foot, and it was hard work! So, these 'hospitals' were very important. They helped people to keep going on their journeys.

Today, Spittle is a peaceful place where people live and go to school. It's not filled with hospitals, but it's filled with homes, schools, and shops. Even though we don't have the old kind of 'hospitals' anymore, Spittle still welcomes everyone with open arms, like the old 'hospitals' used to do.
