Welcome to Rathmines

Rathmines is a special place in Dublin, the capital city of Ireland. Did you know, long ago, it was a quiet countryside area?

Now, let's have a little history lesson. Back in the 14th century, it was known for its big Rathmines Castle. Imagine, a real-life castle right in the middle of the town! But sadly, it was destroyed during a big battle in 1649, called the Battle of Rathmines. This was a time when people were fighting over who should be in charge of the country.

The people of Rathmines built a church in 1828 called the Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinners Church. It's a very old and beautiful building that still stands today.

Rathmines became part of Dublin city in the 19th century and started to grow with more people, houses, and shops. It even got its very own fire station and town hall, which was like the mayor's office.

So, even though it's changed a lot over time, Rathmines still has a rich history filled with castles, battles, and a beautiful church. Isn't that cool?

My Family and Rathmines

Hi, I'm Danny, and I'm 8 years old. I live in a place called Rathmines, and it's really cool! There's this big Ranelagh Gardens nearby where I go to play with my friends. We like to play hide and seek among the trees. It's fun because there are so many places to hide!

There's also this huge clock tower in the middle of Rathmines. It's super tall and when it chimes, you can hear it all over the place. I like to imagine it's a castle and I'm the king.

Oh, and there's the Swan Shopping Centre. That's where my mom takes me to buy new shoes and clothes. I don't really like shopping, but I do like the ice cream shop there. They have the best chocolate ice cream!

There's also a big library in Rathmines. I like to go there with my dad. He helps me pick out books. I'm currently reading about dinosaurs. Did you know some were as tall as a house?

So, that's a little about me and where I live. Rathmines is a fun place to grow up. I can't wait to share more adventures with you!
