Loughlinstown is a special place in County Dublin, Ireland. Did you know it's named after a person? Yup! Long, long ago, a man named "Lochlann" owned this land, so it became known as "Lochlann's town," or Loughlinstown.

My Family and Loughlinstown

Hi there! I'm Finley and I'm 8 years old. I live in Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin and it's the best place ever! There's so much to see and do. We have a cool park called Shanganagh Park. It has lots of trees, a playground, and even a castle! The castle is old and mysterious, it’s my favorite place to play pretend. I imagine I'm a knight defending the castle.

I also love going to the Killiney Hill Park. It's a big hill and when you climb to the top, you can see the whole of Dublin! It's a bit tiring, but totally worth it. I also love looking at the Obelisk at the top, it's like a big pencil reaching for the sky.

Our local library is another place I enjoy. It's small but full of books. I love spending time there, reading about different places and people. It’s like going on an adventure in my mind!

Loughlinstown is also famous for its hospital. My mom works there as a nurse. She says it's very important for the community. I like to think she's a hero.

The Logainm of Loughlinstown

Loughlinstown, in County Dublin, is a place with a cool name. Its name comes from the Irish language, just like many places in Ireland. In Irish, it's called 'Baile Uí Lachlainn' which means 'Loughlin's town'. This tells us that a long time ago, a man named Loughlin probably lived there and the town was named after him. It's like if a place was called 'Sarah's city' or 'Michael's village'.

Over the years, the name has changed a bit, just like a game of telephone. Sometimes when we say something many times or tell a story again and again, some things change a little. That's how 'Baile Uí Lachlainn' became 'Loughlinstown'. But it's still the same place, with its name reminding us of the people who lived there long ago.

Today, Loughlinstown is known for many things like its hospital, which is named Loughlinstown Hospital. It's a place where people go when they need help from doctors and nurses. So, Loughlinstown's name lives on, not just in maps and road signs, but also in the hearts of those who work and get treated in the hospital.
