Welcome to Liskilly

Welcome to Liskilly, a tiny townland located in the beautiful County Limerick, Ireland. Many years ago, Liskilly was full of green fields where farmers grew crops and raised animals. This was long before cars and computers, when horses were the fastest way to travel, and letters were the only way to chat with friends far away.

Even though Liskilly might seem a small and quiet place now, it holds a secret. Did you know that in the past, Liskilly was known for its excellent butter? Yes, that's right, butter! The people of Liskilly were experts at turning creamy milk from their cows into delicious butter, which was then sent all across Ireland and even overseas.

People from far and wide would look forward to tasting Liskilly's famous butter on warm, toasty bread. This made Liskilly very important, and the people living there were very proud of their delicious butter.

While Liskilly might not make famous butter anymore, the story of its butter-making days is still told with pride. So, next time you spread butter on your toast, remember the little townland of Liskilly, which was once the butter capital of Ireland.

My Family and Liskilly

Hi there! My name is Ollie and I'm 8 years old. I live in a cool place called Liskilly in Co. Limerick. Liskilly is really neat because we have lots of fun places to play and explore.

One of my favorite places is the big old castle that's right in the middle of our village. It's got tall towers and thick stone walls. I like to pretend I'm a knight defending the castle from dragons! Sometimes, my friends and I have picnics near the castle. We can see the whole village from there.

We also have a lovely river flowing through Liskilly. I love skipping stones across it and watching the ducks swimming. In the summer, we even go fishing there. Once, I caught a big, shiny fish, but I let it go back into the river.

Living in Liskilly is always exciting. There's always something fun to do and new things to discover. I can't wait to grow up and explore even more of this magical place!

The Logainm of Liskilly

Liskilly is a lovely place in County Limerick, in Ireland. The name Liskilly comes from the Irish language words 'Lios Cill', which means 'Fort of the Church'. Long, long ago, people in Ireland built ring-shaped forts for protection and used them as places to live. The word 'lios' in Irish means 'fort'. The word 'cill' means 'church', which is a place where people go to pray. So, Liskilly was probably a place where there was a fort and a church.

Over the years, the name 'Lios Cill' got changed to 'Liskilly' because sometimes when words are spoken over and over, they can change a little. Even today, if you visit Liskilly, you might still be able to see some old forts and churches. This makes Liskilly a very special place because it reminds us of the people who lived there long ago.
