My Family and Limerick

Hi, I'm Dani! I'm 8 years old and I live in a cool place called Limerick. It's in Ireland, you know? That's a country with lots of green fields and sheep. But Limerick is not just about fields and sheep, we have awesome places too!

One of my favourite spots is King John's Castle. It's super old, like more than 800 years old! I sometimes pretend to be a brave knight defending the castle. Then, we have the Hunt Museum. Mum says it's important because it has 'artefacts', which is a big word for old stuff. I like the shiny old things, they look like pirate treasure!

Then, there's the Milk Market. It's not just milk though, they have lots of food, and on Saturdays, we go there to buy fresh fruits and yummy pastries. I love the smell of fresh bread!

And, did you know we have a place called People's Park? It’s the best place to play hide and seek because it has lots of big trees. It also has a cool playground and a big fountain!

Living in Limerick is fun. I can't wait to tell you more about my adventures here. See you next time!

The Logainm of Limerick

Limerick is a city in Ireland. The name 'Limerick' comes from an old Irish word 'Luimneach', which means 'bare spot'. The area was called this because it had very few trees a long, long time ago. Over time, this name changed slightly to what we now call Limerick.

Many years ago, the Vikings, who were warriors and traders from Northern Europe, came to Ireland. They found this 'bare spot' and decided to build a settlement there. They called it 'Hlymrekr', which later became 'Limerick' in English. So, the name Limerick comes from both the Irish and Viking languages.

Today, Limerick is no longer a 'bare spot'. It's a bustling city full of people, buildings, and yes, trees too! It's a place where history meets the present, and where the old name still reminds us of its past.
