My Family and Kilrush

Hi, I'm Kaden and I'm 8 years old. I live in a cool place called Kilrush in Co. Mayo. It's right next to a big, wide river called the Moy. I like to watch the boats go by. Sometimes, I even see a few ducks!

Close to my house, there's a big old church - St. Patrick's. It's really tall and I can see it from my bedroom window! I like to imagine it's a big castle.

There's also a huge field where I love to play football with my friends. We have lots of adventures there, pretending to be famous footballers. The best part is when we win the pretend championship!

I also like going to the local park. There's a big playground and a duck pond. I love feeding the ducks with my little sister. She gets really excited when they come close.

So, that's a little bit about me and where I live. Kilrush is a really fun place to grow up in, especially for an 8-year-old like me!

The Logainm of Kilrush

Kilrush is a special place in County Mayo in Ireland. The name 'Kilrush' is an English word that came from the Irish word 'Cill Rois'. 'Cill' means church and 'Rois' means wood. So, Kilrush means 'Church of the Wood'. Isn't that interesting?

Long, long ago, when Ireland was filled with forests, a little wooden church was built here. People would come from near and far to visit this church. Over time, the wooden church was replaced with stone buildings, but the name 'Kilrush' stayed the same, as a memory of the wooden church.

Today, Kilrush is still a lovely place to visit. Even though we don't see a wooden church there anymore, the name Kilrush reminds us of its history. So, every time we say 'Kilrush', we're talking about a little wooden church from a long time ago. That's a bit of history in just one word!
