My Family and Killybegs

Hi, I'm Sam! I'm 8 years old. I live in a place called Killybegs in Co. Donegal. It's a really cool place, you know?

There's this big fishing port here. It's like, the biggest in Ireland! Can you believe that? Dad says, sometimes, you can see big boats coming in with lots of fish. It's so exciting!

We also have a place called Fintra Beach. It's my favourite! The sand is so soft and the water is so blue. I love building sandcastles and running along the shore. It's the best place to be on a sunny day!

There's also this old tower called St Catherine's Well. It's really old and a bit scary, but also super cool. My friends and I play around it sometimes, imagining we're knights and princesses. It's so much fun!

So, that's a bit about me and where I live. Killybegs is the best! I'm lucky to be growing up here. Bye for now!

The Logainm of Killybegs

Killybegs is a town in County Donegal, Ireland. The name 'Killybegs' comes from the Irish words 'Na Cealla Beaga', which means 'little cells'. This name is because long, long ago, monks used to live in this area. They had small rooms or 'cells' where they lived and prayed.

Back in those days, monks were very respected and people used to visit them to ask for advice or help. So, the area around these 'little cells' grew into a busy place and eventually became the town we know today as Killybegs.

Fast forward to the present day, Killybegs is now a famous fishing port. The name 'Killybegs' reminds us of those monks who lived there hundreds of years ago, and the 'little cells' they lived in. Even though monks no longer live there, the place is still full of history and stories from the past.
