Welcome to Kerrymount

Kerrymount is a very special townland in County Dublin, Ireland. It's like an old, wise friend with many stories to tell. Long, long ago, Kerrymount was full of green fields where farmers would grow crops and raise animals.

Although Kerrymount might seem like a quiet place now, it was once very busy! A long time ago, in the 1800s, it was home to a big, beautiful house called Kerrymount Castle! Can you imagine a real castle, with tall towers and grand rooms, right here in our own townland?

Sadly, the castle isn't there anymore. It was taken down and the stones were used to build other buildings. But, if you close your eyes and imagine, you can almost see the old castle standing tall and proud in the middle of Kerrymount.

Even though the castle is gone, the history of Kerrymount is still alive. The people who live here, the fields that are farmed, and the animals that are raised all carry on the story of this special townland. It's like a living history book with new pages being added all the time! Remember, you are a part of Kerrymount's history too!

My Family and Kerrymount

Hi, I'm Jaden and I'm eight years old! I live in Kerrymount, Co. Dublin. It's a super cool place to grow up. I see the sea every day from my window. Sometimes, it's calm and other times, it's wild and exciting. I love it when the waves crash against the rocks. It makes me feel like I'm in an adventure story!

Just a stone's throw away from my house, there's a magical forest called Fernhill Park. In there, I play hide-and-seek with my friends among the tall, whispering trees. It's like we're in our own secret world, full of fairies and creatures. I've even seen a red squirrel once!

My school is next to the famous James Joyce Tower. It's super tall and old. I like to imagine it's a giant's castle. My teacher said James Joyce was a famous writer. Maybe one day, I'll be a famous writer too!

Kerrymount is the best place to be a kid. There's always something fun to do or an adventure to have. And at the end of every day, I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

The Logainm of Kerrymount

Once upon a time, a place in Dublin was named Kerrymount. The name is Irish and is originally spelled as Ciarrai Mhuintir. "Ciarrai" means Kerry and "Mhuintir" means people, so Kerrymount means 'people of Kerry'. This name might have been given because people from County Kerry moved there long, long ago.

When we go back in history, Ireland was not like it is today. Long ago, people from different parts of Ireland often moved to new places for farming, trading, or to start a new life. So, maybe some people from Kerry moved to this part of Dublin and they named it Kerrymount to remember their old home.

Today, Kerrymount is a bustling area in Dublin. People live, work, and go to school there. And every time someone says the name Kerrymount, they are also telling a little piece of history about the people of Kerry who moved there long, long ago.
