All about Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc was a brave and determined girl who lived in France a long time ago. She was born in a small village and heard voices from God when she was just a young girl. These voices told her to help the French army fight against the English during the Hundred Years' War.

Joan was only a teenager when she dressed as a boy and led the French army to victory in many battles. She inspired the soldiers with her courage and faith. Joan believed that God was guiding her to help the French king become the ruler of France.

Sadly, Joan was captured by the English and accused of witchcraft. Even though she was put on trial, Joan remained strong in her beliefs. She was eventually sentenced to death, but her bravery and determination made her a symbol of hope and courage for the French people.

Joan of Arc is remembered as a hero who fought for what she believed in, even when faced with great challenges. Her story teaches us to be brave, follow our beliefs, and never give up on our dreams."

A Visit to Orléans, France

Hi! I'm Zadie and I'm 8 years old. I want to tell you about my super cool trip to Orleans in France! It's a special place because a very brave lady named Joan of Arc did some amazing things there a long, long time ago. My favorite part was visiting this big, beautiful statue of Joan of Arc riding a horse. It was right in the middle of a big square, and my mom said it's there because she saved the city a very long time ago. I felt like I was standing next to a real-life hero!

We also walked around the old streets, and I imagined what it would be like to live in Joan's time. It was like being in a storybook! We even saw a house that was super old and mom said it was from Joan's time too. I tried to take pictures with my camera, but they didn't come out as cool as seeing it with my own eyes. Orleans is a place I'll never forget, especially because I got to learn about someone as brave as Joan of Arc!

  1. What was your favorite part of visiting Orleans and why?
  2. How did you feel standing next to the statue of Joan of Arc?
  3. What did you imagine when you walked around the old streets of Orleans?
  4. Why do you think Joan of Arc is considered a hero in Orleans?
  5. How is seeing something with your own eyes different from seeing it in pictures?
