All about Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was an amazing woman who lived a long time ago, but her story is still inspiring to this day. She was born into slavery in the 1800s, which means she didn't have the freedom to do what she wanted. But Harriet was determined to be free.

When Harriet was a teenager, she managed to escape from slavery and made her way to the North where slavery was not allowed. But she didn't stop there. Harriet knew that her family and friends were still enslaved, so she risked her own freedom to help them escape too. She became a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad, a secret network of people who helped slaves escape to freedom. Harriet guided many people to safety, making dangerous journeys by night, through forests and rivers.

Not only was Harriet brave and strong, but she was also very smart. She helped the Union Army during the American Civil War as a nurse, cook, and even a spy! She also led a military raid that rescued over 700 enslaved people.

Even after the war, Harriet fought for equal rights for all people. She dedicated her life to helping others and standing up against injustice. Harriet Tubman is a true hero and her story teaches us that no matter how difficult things may seem, we should always fight for what is right and never give up.

A Visit to Maryland.

Hi, my name is Hannah and I'm 8 years old. Today, I want to tell you about my visit to a really cool place called Understood! It's in Maryland, the same place where Harriet Tubman was famous. I learned a lot about her, and it was so inspiring!

When we got to Understood!, the first thing I saw was a big statue of Harriet Tubman. It was amazing! Then we went inside and there were all these exhibits about her life. I learned that she was born into slavery but she escaped and helped many other people escape too. She was really brave!

One of my favorite parts of the visit was when we got to go on a guided tour. The tour guide told us stories about Harriet Tubman and showed us different places where she worked and lived. We even got to see the Underground Railroad, which was a secret network of people who helped slaves escape to freedom. It was like being in a history book!

After the tour, we went to a special area where we could dress up like Harriet Tubman and take pictures. I put on a bonnet and a long dress, just like she used to wear. It was really fun pretending to be her for a little while!

Visiting Understood! made me realize how important it is to be brave and stand up for what you believe in, just like Harriet Tubman did. She never gave up, even when things were really hard. I want to be like her when I grow up!
