Welcome to Graiguenamanagh

Graiguenamanagh is a fun town with a funny name, right in the heart of County Kilkenny, Ireland. A very, very long time ago, even before your great-great-grandparents were born, this town was just a quiet place with lots of trees and rivers.

Then one day, in the year 1204, some very religious men called monks decided to build a big, beautiful house called an Abbey here. They named it Duiske Abbey. Imagine how cool it'd be to have your own Abbey!

These monks were very busy. They read and wrote lots of books, they grew their own food, and they made beautiful artwork. People from all over came to visit them and the town of Graiguenamanagh began to grow around the Abbey.

Even today, you can still see the Abbey in Graiguenamanagh. It's not filled with monks anymore, but it's a great place to imagine what life was like back then. Isn't history like a fun story that really happened?

Even if you can't pronounce Graiguenamanagh (try saying it fast five times!), it's a place with a story that goes back hundreds of years, and that makes it pretty special!

My Family and Graiguenamanagh

Hi, my name is Alex and I'm 8 years old. I live in a pretty cool place called Graiguenamanagh, in Co. Kilkenny. It's a really neat place to grow up in. We have lots of amazing things to see and do around here.

My favourite place is Duiske Abbey. It's an old church that's been around for hundreds of years. I like to imagine what life was like back when it was built. I also love to visit the Graiguenamanagh Town of Books festival. I love books and it's so much fun to see so many of them in one place.

Another cool place is Brandon Hill. I love to climb up and see the whole town from the top. It's a bit tough but totally worth it. And I can't forget the River Barrow. We often go for walks along its banks, and sometimes we even see otters!

Graiguenamanagh is a pretty special place to live. I'm always learning something new and having fun adventures. Hope you enjoyed hearing about my town!
