Welcome to Glannarouge East

Glannarouge East is a small, charming townland located in County Cork, Ireland. The word 'Glannarouge' comes from the Irish language and means 'Red Glen', which is probably due to the beautiful reddish hue of the setting sun that can be seen here.

This townland has a fascinating history. Long, long ago, it was populated by farmers who worked hard on the land. They grew crops like potatoes and barley, and raised animals like cows and sheep. They lived in simple, but cosy, stone cottages that you can still see around the townland today.

One exciting thing about Glannarouge East is its connection to the Great Famine, a tough time in Ireland's history from 1845 to 1852. During this period, many people had to leave their homes because there was very little food. Some people from Glannarouge East moved to other countries in search of a better life.

Today, the townland is a peaceful place where people live happily. If you ever visit, you can feel the history all around you and remember the brave people who once lived here.
