Douglas got its name from a special word in Gaelic, "Dubhglas", which means "dark stream". This comes from the beautiful river that flows gently through the townland. Imagine listening to the soothing sound of the water while reading your favourite book!
The most interesting thing about Douglas is its ancient round tower. This tall, narrow building was built over a thousand years ago! It's hard to believe, right? These towers were used by our ancestors as a safe place when danger was near. Imagine climbing up the tower's spiral staircase to look out over the beautiful green fields of Douglas!

There's also the enchanting Villa Marina Gardens. It's a perfect spot for picnics and games. Don't forget to admire the beautiful flower beds and the old bandstand, it's like a stage for musicians!
Douglas is also known for its charming little river, the River Douglas, where ducks love to swim. If you're lucky, you might even spot a heron standing still, waiting to catch a fish!
Lastly, there's the amazing Douglas Head, a small mountain that overlooks the sea. It's a bit of a climb, but the view at the top is worth it. You can see the whole town and the sparkling sea. It's as if you're on top of the world!
Hi there! I'm Gray, and I'm 8 years old. I live in the coolest place ever - it's a town called Douglas! Every day is a new adventure here. My favorite spot is the Tower Museum - it's this big, old building full of cool stuff from the past. I especially love the old coins and the shiny swords!
Did I mention I live near a park too? It's called Villa Marina Gardens. It's so much fun! There's a big playground, and I love swinging on the swings. Sometimes, I try to reach the sky. When I'm tired, I just lie on the grass and look at the beautiful flowers.
I also enjoy seeing the horses at the Home of Rest for Old Horses. It's not every day you get to live near a place where you can meet real, live horses. They're so gentle and friendly. I want to be a vet when I grow up so I can help them.
