Welcome to Doogary

Doogary is a special little place in County Monaghan, Ireland. It's called a "townland," which is a unique Irish way of dividing up the land into smaller areas.

Doogary has a rich history. A long, long time ago, even before your great-great-grandparents were born, people lived and worked on this land. They grew their food, raised animals, and built homes, just like we do today. But they didn't have all the tools and technology we have! They worked hard with their hands and simple tools.

While there aren't any famous battles or big events that happened in Doogary, this doesn't mean its history isn't important. Every day, people lived their lives, celebrated birthdays, helped their neighbors, and played games. They were a part of Ireland's story, just like we are today.

One of the nice things about Doogary is its beautiful natural surroundings. Imagine playing hide and seek among the lovely green fields and enjoying picnics beside the glittering streams. That's how children long ago might have spent their days in Doogary. And guess what? Kids still do these things today in this charming townland. So you see, history is not just about big events; it's about everyday life too.

My Family and Doogary

Hi! I'm Casey and I'm 8 years old. I live in a cool place called Doogary in Co. Monaghan. It's fun growing up here because there's always something to do. My favourite place to go is the big old castle near my house. It's very old and sometimes I imagine I'm a prince or princess living there.

There's also a big lake near us. It's called Lough Muckno and it's really big and beautiful. My dad and I go fishing there sometimes. We never catch anything but it's still fun.

I also like going to the forest park. It's full of trees and animals. Sometimes, I go there with my friends and we play hide and seek. It's super cool and a little bit scary but we always stick together.

I love living in Doogary. It's a really fun place. I can't wait to grow up and explore more of it!

The Logainm of Doogary

Doogary is a place in County Monaghan, a lovely part of Ireland. The word 'Doogary' is quite special because it comes from two Irish words, 'Dubh' and 'Garrai'. 'Dubh' means black and 'Garrai' means garden. So, when we put the two words together, Doogary means 'Black Garden'.

In the old days, people used to grow lots of plants and vegetables in their gardens. The soil was very black and rich, which is why they might have called it a 'Black Garden'. The black soil was very good for growing things, so the people living there could have lots of food to eat.

Today, Doogary is still an important place in County Monaghan. Even though we might not see many black gardens anymore, the name 'Doogary' helps us remember how things used to be in the past. It's a nice way to think about the history of the place and the people who lived there long before us.
