My Family and Curryhills

Hi, I'm Ollie and I'm 8 years old! I live in a cool place called Curryhills in Co. Kildare. It's really neat because we have lots of green fields and farms, I really like to watch the cows and sheep. There's also a big tower here, it's called the Round Tower and it's really, really old. Sometimes, I imagine it's a castle tower and I'm the king!

My school is near the tower and I walk there every day with my friends. We pass by the bakery and sometimes we can smell the fresh bread, it's my favourite smell in the world. After school, we play in the park until it's time to go home for dinner. I love climbing the big oak tree, it's the tallest in the whole park!

My favourite thing about living in Curryhills is the nature. There are so many birds and animals around. My best friend and I have a secret spot by the river where we watch the ducks. It's the best place ever! I can't wait to grow up here in Curryhills. It's my home and I love it.

The Logainm of Curryhills

Curryhills is a small place in County Kildare, Ireland. It might sound like a place full of curry, but its name comes from the Irish language. In Irish, it's called 'Cnoc Churraigh'. 'Cnoc' means hill and 'Curraigh' is a type of wetland. So, Curryhills means 'Hill of the Wetland'.

Long ago, Ireland was full of wetlands. People used to travel by boats called 'currachs' on these wetlands. Maybe, they used to visit the hill near this wetland, and that's how the place got its name!

Today, Curryhills is a peaceful place with farms and houses. But the wetlands are mostly gone, replaced by fields for farming. Even though times have changed, the name Curryhills reminds us of how the place used to be many years ago.
