Welcome to Cartrons

Cartrons is a small, cosy townland in County Westmeath, located in the beautiful country of Ireland. It's not always been the quiet place it is today. Hundreds of years ago, it was a busy spot full of life and laughter!

A long time ago, Cartrons was part of the ancient kingdom of Mide, which means 'middle' in Irish. Can you guess why it was called that? It's because it was right in the middle of Ireland!

People have been living in Cartrons for many centuries. They farmed the land, raised animals, and built homes. They didn't have cars or televisions back then, but they had each other and the beautiful countryside to enjoy.

Even though there aren't any famous battles or big events that happened in Cartrons, that doesn't make it any less important or interesting. Every place has its own special story, and Cartrons is no different. Its history is about the everyday people who lived there, worked the land, and made it home.

My Family and Cartrons

Hi, I'm Harper and I'm 8 years old. I live in a really cool place called Cartrons in Co. Westmeath. It's a really neat place with so much to see and do. My favourite spot is Lough Ennell. It's a big lake near my house. I like to go there with my family and feed the ducks. Sometimes we have picnics there too.

Another thing I really love about living in Cartrons is the Belvedere House and Gardens. They're really pretty and sometimes they have fun events. I went to a Halloween event there once and it was super fun. Plus, the house is really old and has so many stories. I think it's like living in a storybook!

My school is not far from my house. I walk there every day with my friends. We have a nice playground and my favourite class is art. But what I love most about Cartrons is the people. Everyone is so friendly and I have lots of friends to play with. I'm really lucky to grow up here.

Long, long ago, people in Ireland used to divide land into different parts. One of those parts was called a 'cartron'. That's how Cartrons got its name! It's like how you have your own special spot in your classroom.

Today, Cartrons is still around. People live there, play there, and go to school there. And now you know the story behind its name! Isn't that cool? How about we remember the name Cartrons, the quarter of land in County Westmeath, and the story behind it?
