Welcome to Carrigtohill |
Carrigtwohill, a lovely small town in County Cork, Ireland, has a rich and interesting history. Hundreds of years ago, it was home to ancient Irish chieftains, the leaders of old Irish tribes. They lived in mighty castles, one of which was Barryscourt Castle. Can you imagine living in a castle? It must have been so exciting!
The town’s name, Carrigtwohill, comes from the Irish "Carraig Thuathail", which means "Tuathal's Rock". Tuathal was probably a very important person back then!
Carrigtwohill is also known for its old churches. One of them, St. Mary's Church, was built more than 800 years ago! That's older than your great-great-great-great-grandparents!
Even though lots of time has passed, the people of Carrigtwohill have not forgotten their history. They still celebrate it with festivals and events.
So, Carrigtwohill may seem like a small town, but it is filled with big stories from the past. Imagine all the knights, chieftains, and people who once walked the same streets you could walk today!

Hi, I'm Max and I'm 8 years old. I live in Carrigtohill in Co. Cork. It's a super cool place! There's this awesome tower called Barryscourt Castle. It's really old and big. I think a king used to live there!
My friends and I love to play hide and seek in the Carrigtwohill Community Centre. It's the best spot because it's so big and has lots of hiding spots. My sister says they do yoga there too, but I think running around is more fun.
There's also a really big park called the Ballyadam Park. I like to go there with my dog, Fluffy, and we play fetch. Fluffy is the best at catching the ball, he never misses!
My school is near the Fota Wildlife Park. Sometimes, we go on field trips there. I've seen all sorts of animals like monkeys, giraffes and even kangaroos! It's my favourite place in the whole world!
Carrigtohill is a pretty place in County Cork, Ireland. Its name in Irish is 'Carraig Thuathail', which translates to 'Tuathal's Rock' in English. Tuathal was a man who lived a long, long time ago, and this place was named after him. Isn't it cool that places can be named after people?
It is believed that Tuathal was a leader or a king, and the rock might have been a significant place in his kingdom. Today, Carrigtohill is known for its beautiful landscapes and friendly people. It has grown and changed a lot since the time of Tuathal, but his memory still lives on in the name of the place.
Just like Tuathal left his mark in history, you too can leave your mark in the world. Maybe one day, there will be a place named after you too!
