Welcome to Borrisland North

Borrisland North is a small but special townland in County Tipperary, Ireland. It might not seem like a place where a lot happened, but every place has its own story, and so does Borrisland North!

Long ago, it was home to simple farmers who worked hard to grow crops and raise animals. These people were the first to name this place Borrisland North. "Borris" comes from the Irish word "borris" which means "hilly land". So, imagine lots of little hills dotting the landscape.

These farmers lived in small stone cottages, some of which can still be seen on the land today. They didn't have computers or cars, but they knew how to live with the land and they passed down their knowledge from generation to generation.

In the 1800s, Borrisland North also played a small part in the Great Famine, a sad time in Ireland's history when potato crops failed and many people were left without food.

My Family and Borrisland North

Hi! I'm Zephyr, and I just turned 8! I live in Borrisland North, Co. Tipperary. It's a really neat place! We have lots of cool things like the Ormond Castle. It's this big, old castle that's been around for forever! Sometimes, I pretend I'm a knight storming the castle. I also love going to the Glen of Aherlow. It's this super big valley with lots of trees and animals. I saw a deer there once!

We also live near the Rock of Cashel. It's not a rock you can pick up though, it's like a big hill with old buildings on top. Mum says it's very important. I like to imagine I'm a king or queen looking over my kingdom from there. And there's the Lough Derg, a big lake where we have picnics sometimes. I love throwing stones to see how many times they skip.

My favourite place though, is the Devil's Bit. It's a mountain with a part missing. Dad says the devil took a bite and that's why it's called that. I don't believe him, but it's fun to think about. Living here is like being in a giant adventure story, and I can't wait to see more!
