Welcome to Ballycomy

Ballycomy is a small townland located in the beautiful county of Kilkenny, Ireland. Let's take a little trip back in time to learn about its history.

Long, long ago, before your grandparents or even their grandparents were born, Ballycomy was home to farmers who worked hard every day to grow food and raise animals. They lived in small cottages made from stones and thatch, a type of straw, which they used for their roofs.

While there may not be any famous battles or grand castles in Ballycomy's history, it's still a special place. Its name is quite unique! In the Irish language, it's called Baile Uí Chomaidh, which means "O'Comy's town". Isn't that fun to say?

Even though it's a small place, Ballycomy has a big heart. The people who live there are known for being kind and welcoming. They love to celebrate their history and traditions, passing down stories from generation to generation.

So, even though Ballycomy might not have knights or princesses in its history, it's still an important part of Ireland's past. And who knows? Maybe one day, you'll get to visit and see it for yourself!

My Family and Ballycomy

Hi there! My name is Gray and I'm 8 years old. I live in a small place called Ballycomy in Co. Kilkenny. It's really cool growing up here. We're surrounded by lots of green fields where I can run and play. Sometimes I see horses and cows, which is really exciting!

There's this really big tower near my house, it's called the Ballycomy Castle. It's super old, like from the middle ages! I like to imagine knights and princesses lived there. It's not open for anyone to go inside, but it's fun to look at from outside.

There's also the River Barrow, it's really long and flows right near Ballycomy. I like to watch the ducks and swans swimming in it. Sometimes, my friends and I have picnics near the river when it's sunny. It's so much fun!

So, that's a little about me and my life in Ballycomy. It's a small place but it's full of big adventures! See ya!

The Logainm of Ballycomy

Ballycomy is a lovely place in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The word Ballycomy is a mix of two different words. 'Bally' comes from the old Irish word 'baile', which means 'home' or 'place'. 'Comy' comes from 'camadh' in Irish, and it means 'bend' or 'curve'. So, Ballycomy means 'the place of the curve' in English. It's like a special nickname that tells us something about the land there.

Long time ago, people used to name places based on what they looked like or what happened there. In Ballycomy's case, maybe the land had a big curve, like a bend in a river or a road. Even today, if you visit Ballycomy, you can see the curvy roads and fields that may have led to its name.
